By Carlos Ramírez Zago

This young tennis player from San Miguel de Allende, Abril Goded Luna is considered by many a future tennis star in Mexico, at only 13 years of age there is already talk of her promising future in the world of tennis. It was at the age of 4 years old when Abril knew what would be the great passion of her life: tennis. Her father took her to play at the tennis courts and from there she fell in love with the sport, and never stopped training.

"My style of play is quite aggressive, I always like to have control of the match, but I am also a player who easily adapts to play with all kinds of styles and surfaces". Her performance on the courts was so good that Abril began to compete in regional, state, sectional, and even national tournaments, which led her to position herself as national #1 Ranking in categories 10, 12, and 14 years old and to have the prestigious brand Wilson as a sponsor.

In 2021, Abril was proclaimed National Champion 5 times:

In singles and doubles at the National Easter Tournament in San Luis Potosi.

In the 3rd Grade Tournament in Querétaro.

In a National Tournament in Manzanillo.

In a Special National Tournament in Leon.

In a National Special Tournament in Guadalajara.

For 2022, Abril became a finalist in different tournaments in regions like Morelia, Querétaro, Guadalajara and Boca del Rio, Veracruz. In addition to being crowned as doubles champion in the Grade One Veracruz Tournament and "Back Draw" champion in the 3rd UTR open category tournament at SMA Tennis Academy.

In 2023, Abril had a sensational season as she was proclaimed champion in different tournaments:

State Champion singles and doubles in Queretaro.

Regional singles and doubles champion in Morelia.

Singles champion in Leon G1.

National Clay Court Champion in Guadalajara.

UTR Champion at SMA Tennis Academy.

Not only did she become champion in different tournaments, she was selected to represent Mexico as the "#1 racket" in the Dominican Republic, where she won the undefeated championship of the final ITF/COTECC U12 team competition.

"When competing I feel satisfaction, as I always try to give my best in every match. That feeling of wanting to do very well, anyone would say it is because of nerves, but in reality it is emotion and having to stay calm on the court, it becomes a great challenge for me" mentioned Abril.

Abril has participated in several intensive courses with renowned coaches and has trained intensively in different national and international academies of great prestige.

2024 has been a great year for Abril, as it is a key year in her short but brilliant tennis career because in August she will play her first tournament in the International Tennis Tour (ITF). She is also preparing to compete in Europe, where she will be living and training from September of this year, in one of the most prestigious tennis academies in the world, such as the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in France, where she was admitted at the beginning of 2024.

"For me, tennis is my life, if one day I don't play tennis I feel that something is missing. For me, more than a sport, it is me. Playing tennis is the most valuable thing for me since it is also a way to take my mind off everything else and focus on what I like and am passionate about". There is no doubt that behind Abril's results and great work is the support of her father, Angel Goded, who has always been behind her training and supporting her through SMA Tennis Academy, with the goal of Abril fulfilling her dream of becoming a great professional tennis player.

"For me, beyond the results, having the opportunity to see how Abril has been growing with her racquet in hand fills me with pride and joy. I love to watch her play and compete. I never cease to be amazed by her enthusiasm, her fighting capacity, her ability to inspire other people, the joy and determination with which she faces every one of the challenges she faces in her sport and life" said Angel Goded, proud of his daughter Abril's work.

Without a doubt, Abril is a very talented young woman, with a bright future that would make anyone proud, what she has achieved in such a short time and at such a young age, is simply great. We are pleased that a young Sanmiguelense can represent Mexico the way Abril does and there is no doubt that in a few years, we will be able to talk about Abril as one of the best tennis players on the world.
