San Miguel Taste: Good Food, Good Mood: Cafe Aldama 57

By Amy G. Rothlin

Aldama is also known as an Instagram-worthy street by visitors around the globe, while renowned for its photogenic appeal it is also home to a charming little café. Located a few steps from Juarez Park, Café Aldama 57 offers a tasty and unexpected dining choice, perfect for a peaceful coffee break after a stroll in the park. It's also an ideal spot to take your laptop and catch up on emails while you sip a hearty Moka that perfectly complements their Mexican roast with the chocolate sweetness.

This café serves as an extension of the Hotel Matilda, it has a setting that feels both intimate and inviting It has simple yet stylish décor, with six tables for indoor dining and two patio tables for al fresco enjoyment and for those seeking a more professional setting, they also offer a business conference room for group meetings, providing lunch boxes and coffee break packages.

Leading the Kitchen is Juan Carlos, a young and talented Guadalajara native, who lovingly crafts Café Aldama 57's comforting menu, you can say it is an all-day breakfast concept. The café introduces special dishes each month keeping the menu exciting. October's offerings include Apple Compota Pudding which appeared to be more like a delicious pie, Turkish Eggs, an Egg and Bacon Muffin Sandwich, plus the ever-popular English Breakfast, a generously served plate that they're considering adding to the permanent menu.

David, the friendly waiter that you will meet there, highlighted the café's most beloved dishes like the divine Chicken Sandwich, a crispy delight with melted cheese, jalapeño dressing, and the café's signature roasted tomato cream, just the tomato cream will make you want to return.

If you want to spice things up, try the Quesabirrias, Tapatio chef Juan Carlos' specialty filled with Oaxacan cheese, birria-style beef, served with onion, coriander, salsa and birria broth on the side, mix the quesadilla with the broth, you can thank me later! If you had a few too many cocktails the night before, the Torta Ahogada, a hearty hangover cure is the way to go, made with homemade pork carnitas, light tomato sauce, salted bolillo, and pickled onions, it will be the perfect remedy.

Whether you're looking for a cozy breakfast spot, a business meeting venue, or simply a place to enjoy delicious comfort food, this is a delightful surprise that gives you something to look forward to.
