A Leisure Experience Awaits at the Food in Film Festival 2025!

San MiguelTaste is calling all cinephiles and gourmands! Get ready to fascinate your taste buds and ignite your cinematic passions at the 7th annual Food in Film Festival San Miguel de Allende. This unique festival, held from February 27th to March 1st, takes moviegoing to a whole new level by pairing delicious local food experiences through local restaurants, guest chefs, and wine merchants together, it is better known as a  ”fork film event".

Imagine yourself transported to a bygone era through the magic of cinema, all while indulging in dishes that echo the film's themes and cultural setting.

The festival intertwines the art of filmmaking expression with the culinary arts, creating an unforgettable experience for both cinephiles and food enthusiasts. Beyond mere entertainment, the festival fosters a deeper appreciation for the cultural significance of food in film, exploring themes of tradition, identity, and social connection.

The 2025 Food in Film Fest kicks off with one of my favorite movies, "Like Water for Chocolate," a 1992 Mexican romantic drama that indulges in a magical realism setting and beautifully intertwines love and family, through the magic of food. Directed by Alfonso Arau and starring Marco Leonardi and Lumi Cavazos, this is a poignant exploration of female desire and the power of culinary expression a must-see and classic here in Mexico.

What follows is a sweet lecture that you will not want to miss, titled "Chocolate: The Food of the Gods," presented by Kirsten West, a renowned international chef, culinary explorer, and owner of the Piña Azul cooking school. In this insightful lecture, Kirsten will guide you through the fascinating history of the cocoa bean, from its roots in ancient Mayan culture to its global reign today. You'll delve into the cultural significance of chocolate, its multifaceted culinary applications, and the enduring appeal that makes it a cherished treat worldwide on February 27th at 3:00 p.m.

But the Food in Film Festival is more than just a series of screenings; it's a lively celebration of the San Miguel de Allende community. By partnering with local restaurants, cafes, and businesses, the festival not only showcases our communities’ culinary talents but also provides a valuable platform for local businesses to thrive. This year, festival-goers can expect delectable dishes prepared by esteemed establishments like Panio, Chef J.J. Catsañeda from Mesa Marrakesh, San Francisco Steak House, Fari, Zumo and more. Each restaurant brings its unique culinary perspective to the table, ensuring a diverse and exciting gastronomic adventure throughout the festival.

This festival spirit extends beyond the theater walls, fostering a sense of community and connection though food. The raffle, featuring gift certificates from a diverse range of local establishments, encourages attendees to experience and support the cultural fabric of San Miguel. Every ticket holder receives a free raffle ticket, making everyone a potential winner and adding to the overall excitement of the festival. As one of the final highlights do not miss the Tequila Emblema presentation and tasting, presented by Alexandro Cavada Owner of Restaurant Disco Marisco on March 1st, 3:00 p.m.Experience the magic of food and film coming together.
