Sweater Give-Away to Elderly in Need: Can You Contribute?

By Staff Writer

Victor Guzmán, current Commander of American Legion Post 8, San Miguel de Allende and former Commander Allan Gross are following in Allan’s footsteps by organizing the Annual Sweater Give-Away through SO OTHERS MAY EAT (S.O.M.E), planned for Wednesday, December 4.

“You can imagine how these poor, elderly served meals by S.O.M.E. on Wednesdays in the Parroquia de San Miguel courtyard appreciate the warmth of a sweater to protect them during winter’s cold snaps,” said Alan Gross who has overseen the collection for many years with the help of the caring members of San Miguel’s American Legion.

Dr. Grace, Lim who spearheads S.O.M.E said, “Nourishment isn’t just about food.  It’s also about feeling like you belong – somewhere, with someone, to something – that enriches the spirit as much as a warm plate of chicken and mole fills the stomach.  Certainly the generosity of those who donate to the American Legion Sweater Purchase for the elderly poor served by S.O.M.E contribute to this cause in the nourishment of body, mind and soul by showing such caring for this community.”

This year $250.00 USD/peso equivalent must be covered to provide enough sweaters.  Evelyn Guzmán is organizing the cash collection to purchase sweaters. If you can donate, please contact her at eguzmansma@gmail.com. The American Legion Post 8 in San Miguel de Allende works to support veterans, and their families, from anything from social support to medical assistance to after death services.
