For some people work can be both a job and an adventure.
Mary Timmons sees her latest venture as a job as an adventure and a labor love. The retired Alaskan, who lives in La Lejona II, has formed a team currently working on creating maps for the various bus routes for San Miguel.
She recruited R. C. (Randy) Leo, who worked in transportation, and Adolfo Cervantes, former San Miguel tránsito director.
Mary Timmons worked in the fishing industry and engineering and when she moved to San Miguel a few years and she wondered about bus routes.
An avid traveler, she notes, "Jumping on a bus can be a real adventure. You can find some really interesting places including some fantastic taco stands."
In an interview with Insiders News she avidly talked about how the project began.
Currently, she takes bus rides to map out and explore the many bus routes in our city. As you may know, San Miguel includes a city and a municipality which is akin to a county in the US. “I kinda did it for selfish reasons. I wanted to know about these routes,” she adds. On October 10, an idea that started in 2023 has become a reality and is still a work in progress.
“Hola Urbaneros,” notes R.C. Leo, “the day you've been waiting for has arrived! A downloadable map of the Urbano (bus) routes of San Miguel de Allende.”
The current map which is found on the Facebook page Bus Routes of San Miguel is intended to be viewed on a smart phone or tablet with a .PDF viewer.
Leo says, the map is "way too large" to be printed (128” x 96”). “This is definitely a work in progress and is subject to change as we discover and map out more of the Urbano routes of San Miguel de Allende".
The latest version will always be in the files section of this Facebook page and will be announced here and on the Spanish language companion page, Rutas de autobuses de San Miguel de Allende. "We welcome your feedback and input to improve this and make it a more useful tool." Please submit your suggestions. and input and ideas via: sma_urbano_feedback@berryhillfarm.us
Anyone who wants to assist in contributing by doing data collection for route mapping, please send the admins a PM on Facebook. “There are many more routes to map. All it requires is a smartphone with a free app, bus fare, a bit of time, and a healthy sense of adventure. Remember, this map is intended to be viewed on a smart phone or tablet with a .pdf viewer," Leo explains.
The map is in .pdf format and should download directly to iPhones or iPads.
Android users may need to download a .pdf viewer app before they can download the file, notes Timmons.
